Get a cheap(er) iPhone in 2009

Get a cheap(er) iPhone in 2009
Didn"t get an iPhone for Christmas? Don"t despair. It"s often better to wait until the new year to bag a bargain, especially in these credit crunchy times.

You have probably heard that Walmart is now selling iPhones at the bargain price of $197/$297 but Best Buy is going one better, selling refurbished 3G models for $149 for the 8GB version and $249 for the 16GB version - a $50 saving on Apple"s pricing.

But wait! It gets better.... according to Seth Weintraub on the Computer World blog, AT&T is selling refurbished 8GB iPhones for $99.

Run, don"t walk - these deals are bound to be popular!

ASUS Eee Phone coming soon?

We all know that low cost Eee PC's from ASUS have gained a lot of popularity globally. ASUS also demonstrated some impressive products at the CES 2009 recently and announced that it will be launching an Eee Phone in the near future. Just like the Eee PC, the Eee Phone will be a low budget Smartphone and it's expected to come with a full Touch Screen and 3G connectivity. It is also expected that the Eee Phone will come loaded with Google's Android OS and have interactive features that will allow users to control a number of digital devices by ASUS.

ASUS's Chairman, Johnny Shih made the following comment in a recent interview conducted by the New York Times: "Eee phone may become an interactive control".

TV on your iPhone or iPod Touch

TV on your iPhone or iPod Touch
An inexpensive new piece of software exploits the iPhone and iPod Touch"s new ability to download over-the-air podcasts. It"s now a way to watch TV on Apple"s lovely mobile screen. The program is called--wait for it--Television.

Joel Evans of Geek.com took Television for a test drive and liked it a lot; check out his first look here. The $2.99 program, available at the App Store, is said to make it possible to see 50 shows from 30 different channels in the United States, the UK, France and Germany. Find the list here. At least some of what you can download looks like snippets and highlights rather than complete programs.

Streaming TV on your iPhone!

Streaming TV on your iPhone!

Perhaps this post isn't entirely suited here; but I feel it definitely sorta fits in. Orb have just released a $10 iPhone version of their media streamer for the iPhone; allowing users with a Windows PC capable of tuning into television, to stream broadcasts straight to their iPhones over wifi/3g/edge

This is a nice little idea that could let you keep up with your favorite shows while on the move, or even if you just can't be bothered to get out of bed!

Media streaming is something that we always encourage here at Wired Home, and portable streaming; even better!

Check it out on the App Store.
