Sun plans java version for cellphones

Sun plans java version for cellphones
Sun Microsystems plans to revamp its Java software in an effort to compete more effectively in the fast-growing market for Internet-connected mobile phones.(NewYorkTimes) Sun Microsystems, the original developer os Java, has always had a lead in javarelated things. Just think about their Java desktop for example. Probably a great product, but they will never market it as the desktop market is overloaded as it is. But that doesn't mean they're out of it. A proper java platform for modern mobile devices is no luxury, as the current versions are crappy, depending on the brand and model of mobile device you own. For each platform there's a different version, making software unavailable for certain platforms as some are simply incompatible. Stupid, as java was supposed to be platform independant.
In other words, this could be big ! We better watch Sun all the way !

Sony Ericsson T650 - Leader of mobile gadgets | Reviews

Sony Ericsson T650 - Leader of mobile gadgets | Reviews
London, UK - The Sony Ericsson T650 fuses illumination effects with a stainless steel finish and scratch-proof mineral glass. The Sony Ericsson T650 is all about detail. The illumination effects on the keypad and the sides of the phone interact with animations on the screen. As these animations move across the display they set off waves of light around the keypad, which stand-out against the reflective stainless steel finish.

"It's the details that set these phones apart," explains Steve Walker, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Ericsson. "Our designers have taken inspiration from nature and the Nordic light to produce phones that are beautiful to look at and alive with energy. They appeal to those that want to celebrate their individuality and express themselves through their choice of phone."

Going BEYOND Boundaries with iPOD Accessories!

Going BEYOND Boundaries with iPOD Accessories!
We all love our iPOD! Some love them to death-- wearing them constantly and having speakers in every room to plug and play their latest Itunes downloads. I have seen-- and purchase-- clothing with special pockets for iPODs : coats and shirts are typically what I have found with inside pockets and easy to use loops to keep the cord in check.
For those "die hard" Ipod fans there is now leisurewear from Undergear.com that features pockets built into pants and shorts that allow you to relax and have your iPOD "on you" in special pockets and keep hands free for other tasks. From Play-, the i-Pant allows you to slip iPod®, MP3 player or even cell phone into the front pocket and off you go. This is an all cotton pant for comfort and it's easy wash and wear (though watch out for the dryer and make sure you remove all devices before washing!).
The i-Pant retails for $35.00 and comes in lime, turquoise or white. Partner styles include the iBoxer ($22) in orange, turquoise, black or white with lime stitch detailing.
Where to find this most unusual iPOD accessory yet? Check out www.undergear.com

For some, it will be a major wardrobe addition. For others, it's simply a hoot! Now what do YOU think?

Japanese Manufacturers Introduce Motion Phones

Japanese Manufacturers Introduce Motion Phones
If you're a fan of the concept behind the Wiimote; the idea of interacting with your games in ways more exciting than pushing a few buttons while drool drips from your slack lower jaw (eww), you'll probably be interested in a new concept in Japanese cell phones: motion detection. According to CityNews, these new phones allow for games where you play tennis, avoid other cars, ride on skateboard, all controlled by moving the phone. If you're worried these motion-activated devices will spawn a group of mobile gamers who wave their arms in wild circles while they walk, have no fear: the movements are subtle so you can still see the screen while you're playing. If nothing else, it's a cool new way to give yourself motion sickness.

LG Shine Goes DMB

LG Shine Goes DMB
LG has start selling their LG Shine in Korea for a while, and they are now adding the DMB capability to receive media broadcasting. Both clamshell and slider Shine gets the upgrade. The DMB integration on the slider LG Shine is better with a larger display screen and form factor.

The other clamshell design wasn’t too good as the screen is not swivelable, you have to hold the long clamshell phone horizontally when watching media broadcast.

Proof That Our Addiction to Technology Isn't Fatal

Proof That Our Addiction to Technology Isn't Fatal
A couple days ago, Blackberry users in North America couldn't access or send their emails. The failure of the push email service, which lets users access their messages wherever they are, lasted for about a day.

For such a massive failure, it's good to see RIM stepping up and making things workable within a day. Though cynics can say they're just protecting their bottom line. No service equals angry customers. Anger equals service contract cancellations and bad publicity, which of course equal less profit.

Even if we use a cynical perspective, it's easy to see that our use of technology doesn't have to be a weak point. That's because aside from companies doing their best to maintain quality of service, truly productive people will always find a way to get the job done despite the limitations. If that report needs to be sent by 2 pm, there are other ways to do it aside from mobile email.

That's because smartphones and PDAs, including RIM's blackberries, are tools. And the failure of a tool never excuses the failure of a person, unless we're talking about apocalypse.
